OurHistory

On September 6, 1914, the Lamar Avenue Baptist Church was organized with twenty-two charter members and twelve new members were received by baptism. T.A. Moore was called and elected as pastor and was assisted by J.M.P. Morrow, the pastor of First Baptist Port Arthur, in organizing the new church on 1732 Lamar Avenue.

The church was reorganized and the name changed to T.A. Moore Memorial Baptist Church in 1918. In the fall of 1919 J.F. Dobbs was called as pastor and he led the church to buy property at Shreveport Avenue and 16th Street (now Gulfway Drive). After moving to the new location in 1924 the name of the church was again changed to Memorial Baptist Church.

In 1926 Oscar Perkins was called as pastor. Our church experienced great growth during the years under Pastor Perkins' leadership. In 1957 land was purchased on what were then the suburbs of Port Arthur. Dedication of the first building on the current location at 4011 Memorial Blvd and 39th Street was held in 1959. After Bro. Perkins retired shortly thereafter the Lord continued to call godly, Bible-believing pastors to lead Memorial. Our church has experienced both difficulties and victories over the last fifty years in our current location but we believe the future is full of potential.

In 2008 the Lord called Pastor Jeremy Bradshaw to serve as Memorial's tenth pastor. It is a new era for Memorial but our mission is still the same... to be a family who glorifies Christ through living and proclaiming God's Word!
